I have a few comments about this edit though.
First, you kind of lost the definition of edges I praised in my critique. Take care of this pitfall when doing post-processing.
Second, the extreme highlights look nice, but I think they're too bright on the foreground rocks. They draw my attention away from Fluttershy, especially since they're less defined shapes.
What software are you using? Try a higher density in SAI or opacity in Photoshop. Not 100%, but higher than what you're using. For things like eyes and harsh highlights, go even higher.
I think it's probably because of merging layers like you said, but the fog here looks kind of worse. It creates a foggy atmosphere better, sure, but it still doesn't have any depth to it. Look up references of real fog to see more of what it should look like. Fog is tricky.

I tend to like to make dark pictures, so I'll definitely use your help with shading and stuff.
